Chapter One: Dare to Be Bold
Every dream begins with permission.
For a long time, I believed I was bold.
I built a career in the public sector that I was incredibly proud of. I embraced opportunities, stepped into new challenges and was fortunate enough to be rewarded with promotion after promotion. Looking back, I realise I had become someone who naturally said yes to growth. Being bold wasn't something I had to think about. It had simply become part of who I was.
Then I became an entrepreneur. Everything changed.
The confidence I had built over years didn't disappear overnight, but I quickly realised there is a different kind of courage required when you're building something of your own. There are no promotions waiting around the corner, no organisation creating opportunities for your development and no one reminding you that you're doing a good job. Every opportunity has to be created, and every decision carries the weight of your future.
Somewhere along the way, motherhood entered the picture too. Like so many women, I found myself pouring into everyone else while quietly placing parts of myself on hold. My dreams never disappeared, but they became easier to talk about than to pursue.
One day, I caught myself describing the woman I wanted to become and realised I had been describing her for quite some time. I knew the vision, understood the barriers and could explain exactly why I hadn't started. I had become incredibly good at talking about the life I wanted, yet when I looked honestly at myself, I realised I wasn't moving towards it.
That moment changed something in me.
I realised that being bold isn't about having all the confidence in the world. It's about deciding to move before everything feels certain. It's choosing action over overthinking and trusting that courage often meets us after we've taken the first step, not before.
So, I made a promise to myself. I would stop waiting for confidence to arrive and start acting as though the woman I wanted to become was already making decisions on my behalf. I would give my dreams more than conversation. I would give them movement.
I'm still learning. I'm still building. I'm still becoming. Perhaps that's why this felt like the right place to begin.
If you're reading this and you've been waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan or the perfect version of yourself, let this be your reminder that boldness isn't found in certainty. It's found in the decision to begin.
Perhaps today is the day you stop talking about your dreams and finally give them permission to live.
As you close this chapter, ask yourself:
What is one bold step I've been putting off?
What would change if I gave myself permission to begin today?
What chapter am I ready to step into next?
With purpose,
Camille Foune
