Chapter Three: We Were Never Meant to Build Alone

Growth is personal, but it was never meant to be lonely.

I've always admired women who seemed to have everything together. The women who walked into a room with quiet confidence, balanced careers, family and friendships, and somehow made it all look effortless. For a long time, I assumed they had discovered something I hadn't.

The older I've become, the more I've realised something else. None of us are building alone.

Behind every woman doing something remarkable is usually someone who believed in her, challenged her, opened a door, shared an opportunity or simply reminded her not to give up. We often celebrate the person standing on the stage and forget the people who quietly helped build the platform beneath her.

When I look back over my own journey, I can see those people everywhere. There were colleagues who encouraged me to apply for opportunities I wasn't sure I was ready for. Friends who celebrated my ideas before they became businesses. Family who carried more than their share so I could keep building. Even complete strangers have spoken words over my life that arrived exactly when I needed to hear them.

None of them built my life for me. But they reminded me I didn't have to build it alone.

I think somewhere along the way we've started believing that strength means independence. We wear busy like a badge of honour and convince ourselves that asking for help somehow makes us less capable. I've learnt the opposite is true.

There is strength in community. There is wisdom in shared experiences. There is courage that only grows when someone else reminds you of who you are on the days you've forgotten.

Perhaps that's why The Eight House means so much to me. It isn't simply about events or workshops. It's about creating the kind of community I wish more women experienced. A place where ambition and authenticity can exist together, where we celebrate one another's growth without comparison and where success is measured by more than titles, followers or income.

Because building a meaningful life isn't a competition. It's an invitation. One we answer a little more confidently when we know someone is walking beside us.

As I write these chapters, my hope isn't that you'll simply enjoy reading them. My hope is that you'll recognise yourself somewhere within them and know that whatever chapter you're living right now, you don't have to write it on your own.

As you close this chapter

  • Who has helped shape the woman I am today?

  • Who am I building alongside?

  • Who might need my encouragement this week?

With purpose,

Camille Foune.
